Concert FAQs

When is the concert?
The concert is Thursday, May 3rd, 2012 at 6:00pm

Where will the concert be held?
The concert will be held in the Cologne Community Center Gym

Who is involved in this concert?
This concert will be showcasing the elementary music students in grades K-4. 

What time should students be there?
Students should be in their homeroom classrooms by 5:45pm on the night of the concert (5/3/12).

How do I get my child(ren) after the concert?
Parents: Please pick-up your child(ren) in the gym immediately after the concert.  They will remain with their class until you pick them up.

What should they wear to the concert?
Students should dress their best for the concert. 

Acceptable concert attire:

BOYS
•          Ties
•          Suits
•          Dress pants
•          Collared shirts
•          Sweaters

GIRLS
•          Skirts
•          Dresses
•          Dress pants
•          Sweaters

I would prefer that the following items would not be worn:
•          Jeans
•          Hooded shirts or sweatshirts
•          Holes in pants or shirts
•          Large logos or writing on clothing
•          Large pictures or graphics on clothing

When is the dress rehearsal?
The concert dress rehearsal will be Thursday afternoon (5/3/12) at 2:00pm in the Cologne Community Center Gym.

Good Luck Science Fair Participants
Cologne Academy students, Jordon Knutson and Jacob Mapstone, will participate in the regional Science Fair in Mankato this Saturday.  Good Luck Scientists!


4th Annual Garage Sale
The garage sale is this SATURDAY 7AM-3PM!! Bring all your gently used items (no holes, stains, car seats or stuffed animals – please) to the school lunchroom on Friday, April 27th beginning at 3:30 p.m. There will be plenty of people available to help carry your items from the car line. Please support this event by donating and also by attending Saturday to see what goodies you can find.

                
Scrapbooking Weekend
The Scrappy Campers of Cologne Academy will be meeting April 27 & 28. Registration forms are available by contacting tammyschelitzche@embarqmail.com.

Middle School Dance
Cologne Academy will be hosting its first middle school dance on Friday, May 11th, 2012. The dance will take place from 7:00 – 9:30 and will be chaperoned by Cologne Academy Staff. The dance is for Cologne Academy students in grades 5-8. The entrance fee is $3.00, but a food shelf donation will lower the price to $2.00. Dance proceeds will fund future student council projects.

Silent Auction Grade Level Basket Themes
Please remember to send it items for your classroom silent auction gift baskets.   Parents are also more than welcome to make a cash donation of any amount, if that is more convenient (Checks to: Cologne Academy PAVE). Bins are found in each classroom for the donations.

This week students in fourth grade have been taking the MCAs for reading. We will wrap up on Wednesday with the last two segments. The students have done a great job so far!

My MUR class will also be taking the NWEA for reading on Thursday, April 26th. I can't wait to see the progress that students have made this year!

Other testing that is coming up:
Math MCA Round Two (with MUM students) - May 9-10
Math NWEA (MUM class) - May 3
NWEA Science - May 17
The fourth and final math interim will take place the week of May 21st

With all the testing, please make sure that your child is getting plenty of rest and a good breakfast!

Spring Fling Silent Auction


Silent Auction Reminder-

Bins are available in your child's classroom for silent auction basket donations. If you have any questions on your child's grade level theme, please contact Cindy May at kcmay03@msn.com or Shelly Machacek at supenshell@hotmail.com

The fourth and fifth grade basket has a fishing theme. Items that would be good to donate would be tackle, lures, poles, bait bucket, bobbers, life jacket, GC to a sporting goods store, etc.

We have yet to get a donation in 4th grade and would greatly appreciate any size donation in order to fill our basket!

TWO HOUR LATE START ON TUESDAY, APRIL 10th!

This Week's Academics
MUR -This week we will be reading the folktale, "How Water Lillies Began" from Lesson 14 in our Wordly WIse books. We will focus on the lesson 14 words and talk about plot, setting and characters within the story. Spelling words this week are homophones and are on Spelling City titled, "Homophones April 9-13."


 
History - This week we will be starting the African Kingdoms unit. There are ten chapters so it will take us only about two weeks to get through. Students are also still working on At Home Chemistry projects. These are due April 20th.
 
Writing - This week we will continue to do our research for the biographies that we are writing. We will work on the biographies for the next few weeks.
 
Read Aloud - We continue to read Treasure Island this week.

MUM -This week we will be moving into data analysis. Students will be analyzing tables and graphs. We will learn about line graphs, bar graphs, pictographs, pie charts, and stem and leaf plots.

April 2-5


This Week's Academics
MUR -This week we will be reading the story, "Thunder, Elephant, and Dorobo." It is an African Folktale told by Humphrey Harman. We will work on asking, answering, and formulating good interpretive questions. We will also work on finding theme and symbolism in poetry to help prepare for the MCAs that are right around the corner.

 
Science - This week we will be wrapping up or short unit on chemistry. Students will be given two days of review, and we will take the quiz on Thursday the 5th. 
Study guides will be handed out on Monday. 
 
Writing - This week we will continue to do our research for the biographies that we are writing. We will work on the biographies for the next few weeks.
