Books at home?

There are always a few textbooks, library books, etc. that go home throughout the school year. Please check through things at home and send back anything you find!

Thanks!

Academics May 20-31

Time flies when you are having fun!

We have only 12 days of school left - where did this year go?  Here is a run down on the remainder of the school year.

In MUR...
We will be finishing our fairytale unit this week. Students are putting the finishing touches on their own fairytales the next two days. Next week we will be reviewing and taking the final interim assessment of the school year. The last week of school we will read some fun stories to wrap up the school year.
We will have one more week of spelling (assigned on the 28th) that will go with Wordly Wise lesson 17.

In MUM...
This week we are going to take the last interim of the school year! We will then review the results, and the last few weeks of school we will review any skills that need reteach, and also go through a few 5th and 6th grade standards to get a jump start on next year!

In History...
the next 6-7 days I will be teaching Mrs. Slavik's class about American Reformers and we will also do a little lesson on Minnesota and the Midwest region of the United states.

In Writing...
We will finish out the year working on our poetry unit. Students have learned all about Limericks, Concrete Poems, and BioPoems so far. We will next be working on Haikus and Free Verse poetry.

Zoo Reminders and Relay for Life Fundraiser

Zoo Trip

Next week we will be heading to the zoo on Thursday the 24th. We will be leaving at 8:45 am and returning around 3 pm.

Students need to wear their college t-shirt (easy to spot!) and a choice of bottoms. Just please help your child make a good choice based on the weather for that day. As of today it is supposed to be in the mid 60s and partly sunny. Also, students should wear socks and tennis shoes since they will be walking/playing all day.

Please do not send spending money with your kids. Also, students should not bring electronic devices with for the bus ride, as they can easily be lost or stolen.

As for lunches, if students are bringing their own cold lunch, please send it is a brown bag or a bag that can be thrown away.

Student that bring in $1 can be out of uniform for the day and the proceeds will go to the Leo Club Relay for Life team.

Students need to bring in the $1 by the 23rd.

This week we are back to our normal schedule in MUR. We will be continuing our fairytale unit that will take the next two weeks to complete. It will focus on many skills including character development and theme. Students will have spelling homework this week using the WW words from lesson 15. The spelling homework will be due Friday.

Please check Infinite Campus grades regularly at home so you can keep up with how your child is doing in class.

In MUM...
This week we will be focusing on probability and symmetry. Math homework packets are due Friday. This packet will contain a few basic fact worksheets and will also contain a few pages on the topic that we are working on during the week. There may also be homework that comes home during the week, of in class work is not finished in class. This work will be due the following day.

Please check Infinite Campus grades regularly at home so you can keep up with how your child is doing in class.

In Writing...
This week we will be starting a unit on poetry writing. Students will be introduced to several different kinds of poetry including Haiku, Limerick and Concrete. Students will then write poems in these styles.  We will continue to work on our typing skills 1-2 times a week in the computer lab. The free website that we will use is http://www.freetypinggame.net if you would like to access it at home. Another great site that you can encourage your child to use at home is called http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/typing/.

In History...
Welcome back Mrs. Slaviks class. This week we will be going through the unit African Kingdoms. It is eight chapters long which we will get through by the end of the week. With little time, we will have a short open book quiz at the end of the unit.

What we are reading for read aloud...
We are currently reading Tuck Everlasting.
