October 24-28

Odds and Ends...
- The next day that students can wear their class t-shirts is October 28th!

This Week's Academics
MUR - This week we will be reading the story "Two Pairs of Eyes." We will really be working on retelling the story this week. Along with the story we will work out of our Wordly Wise books which focus on vocabulary and also out of our Analytical Grammar books where we have already started working with nouns, proper nouns,  adjectives, articles, and pronouns.
Spelling homework is due Friday.

MUM - This week we will be wrapping up long division and moving into fractions! We will start with a review of what the students already know about fractions, and then move into adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators.

Most students have not mastered their facts higher than 5s. Memorizing their facts 6-9 will help them with the skills we will be working on the rest of the school year. Each student made flashcards for 6-9 in class last week that they should have brought home to work with. If you have not seen these flashcards, let me know.
Basic facts homework is due Friday!

History - We will continue to work through chapters 8-10 in our Europe in the Middle Ages unit this week. The quiz for these 10 chapters will be on Friday, October 28th.
Students who are working on the independent project will present on Monday, October 31st. (This is a change from this Friday the 28th.)

Writing - This week we will continue to work on our informative papers on endangered animals. Each student is taking notes that will guide them through the paper writing process. We will have a publishing party at the end of the week to celebrate our final published pieces.

Read Aloud - We are reading the Core Knowledge Novel Robin Hood this week. It ties in nicely to our history unit about Europe in the Middle Ages and students will see a lot of similarities between the two.

On Friday, we will have our fall party. Since one of our Core Knowledge novels in 4th grade is The Legend of Sleepy Hallow by Washington Irving, we will be watching the Disney version of The Legend of Sleepy Hallow. Permission slips to watch the movie will go home early this week.
