January 2-3

Welcome back! I hope that you all had a wonderful, relaxing break. Time to get back into the swing of things as we head into the new year. 

In MUR...
We will be spending the first few days back starting a new test taking unit that will teach students multiple strategies on how to take a test. We will be continuing this unit through next week. 
There is no spelling homework this week, but we will have it assigned on Monday, January 6th. 

In MUM...
This week we will be starting the geometry strand, specifically angles. Students will start working with protractors to be able to measure the degrees of given angles. 

Please continue to work with your child on their basic facts at home. They are improving every day here at school, I am so pleased!

In History... 
My homeroom class is back with me for the next few weeks as we start the Dynasties of China unit. We will wrap up the unit on the 15th with a end of the unit test. 

In Writing... 
We will be continuing to work on writing descriptive paragraphs this week. 

Read Aloud...
We will be starting the book Hatchet this week.

December 16-20

Reminder:  Mrs. Slavik's class will be presenting their Europe in the Middle Ages projects this week during history class (they are due Monday the 16th)!

What we are doing this week:

In MUR...
Spelling homework is due Friday. This week we are working on words with the long -E pattern. 

This week we will read another Jr. Great Books story called Tuesday of the other June. We will create and test questions about the story and then have seminar on Friday to discuss the story. 

In MUM...
Homework is due on Friday. 

This week we will be prepping for the second interim of the school year by reviewing all the skills and concepts that we have worked on throughout the school year. We will start the geometry strand when we get back from break.   

Even if your child works 5-10 minutes a night on facts they will be successful in class each day. Thank you for your continued support at home!

In History...
This week Mrs. Slavik's class will wrap up the Europe in the Middle Ages unit by presenting their at-home projects. These projects were assigned 2 1/2 weeks ago. I am very excited to see what the students came up with starting tomorrow!


In Writing...
This week we will start working on writing descriptive paragraphs. 

Read Aloud...
This week we will wrap up reading James and the Giant Peach and on Thursday we will watch the movie with Mrs. Slavik's class to see the differences and similarities between the text and media representation.

December 2-6

This week starts second trimester. Grades are posted by teachers on Friday, and are available for you to see after that. 

What we are doing this week:

In MUR...
Spelling homework is due Friday. This week we are working on words with the long -U pattern. 

This week we will continue to work with our Mystery Unit where we are reading a book called Mystery in the Rocky Mountains. We will be focusing on summarizing, main idea and supporting detail, and character development. 

In MUM...
Homework is due on Friday. 

This week we are starting to work with decimals. We will be working specifically with place value (tenths and hundredths), comparing and ordering decimals, rounding decimals, and adding and subtracting fractions. 

Even if your child works 5-10 minutes a night on facts they will be successful in class each day. Thank you for your continued support at home!

In History...
This week Mrs. Slavik's class will continue to read about Europe in the Middle Ages. We will review on Monday and take the chapter 1-11 quiz on Tuesday. The remainder of the week we will read chapters 12-17. 

At home projects are due on Monday, December 16th!

In Writing...
This week we will be writing friendly letters. 

Read Aloud...
This week we will continue reading James and the Giant Peach.
