Here are the websites for animal research:
www.kids.nationalgeographic.com/kids/animals/creaturefeature
www.animal.discovery.com
www.bbc.co.uk/nature/life
We will be working on researching and writing a research paper about an animal of the students choosing. This will be a two to three week project. In history we have begun studying about the Middle Ages.
Mrs. Roth's MUM class will be practicing long division all week and will take a test on multidigit multiplication and division next Monday, Oct. 29. There is a short MUM homework packet this week and there may be some additional division homework that is not completing during class.
For MUR, Mrs. Roth's class will not have a spelling packet this week. We will be reading a story out of our Junior Great Books curriculum and discussing it in our seminar on Friday, as well as, beginning our study of pronouns.

Another great site that you can encourage your child to use at home is called http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/typing/.

In history we will be doing the first two units which are on mapping and world mountains. Students will learn how to read a map and about different kinds of maps during the mapping unit and will learn about the tallest mountains in the world and how mountains affect people, weather, and how we live in the mountains unit.
There will be a small quiz after each unit which will last about 2 weeks.
The mountain quiz is this Wednesday, October 10th. Please see the email that I sent with the study guide for more information.
In Literature Circles...
We are splitting into our first literature circle groups of the year this week! Students have picked the books that they are going to read as a group and will start working in these groups practicing the different roles together.
What we are reading for read aloud...
I always kick of the year by reading one on my favorite books called "The Underneath" by Kathi Appelt. We started the story today, and the students are already very excited to keep reading!
