This Week's Academics
MUR - This week we will be reading a expository piece called The Forty-Niners. We will work on predicting, summarizing, main idea, author's purpose, and context clues. Along with the story we will work out of our Wordly Wise books which focus on vocabulary. This week we will continue working on Lesson 9. We will also work out of our Analytical Grammar books where we have just about finished our workbooks! We will still continue to work on identifying nouns, proper nouns, articles, adjectives, pronouns, prepositions, verbs, and adverbs within sentences. Spelling homework is due Friday.
MUM - This week we have moved into algebra. We will be working on finding the unknown number in a number sentence, input/output tables and rules, and writing a number sentence based on a word problem.
History - This week we will be starting our Dynasties of China unit. The unit has a total of ten chapters and we will be spending the next two and a half weeks working through these chapters. The quiz will be on all ten chapters and will be given on January 18th (tentatively). There is NO at home project with this unit.
Writing - This week we are starting a new writing project. Students will be writing autobiographies about their lives. They will be creating a final project using Power Point and will present these to the class.
Read Aloud - We are taking a break from our 4th grade Core Knowledge novels and reading the book "Hatchet" by Gary Paulsen. Students are loving the adventure so far!
