February 6-10

This week and next Mrs. Nett will be teaching full time!

This Week's Academics
MUR - This week we will be starting by doing our seminar discussion on The Nightingale. With the Extraordinary Expo going on last week, we didn't have time to fit it in last week!

In other news, we will be starting Literature Circles this week in MUR that will extend through the next few weeks!  Students will be grouped according to their STEP levels. Mrs. Nett, our student teacher, and I will each be leading two groups of students. I will be reading James and the Giant Peach with my groups, and Mrs. Nett will be reading Because of Winn-Dixie with her groups. We will be leaving the books at school since we have borrowed them from several different resources. If you would like to check out the book from your library to have at home, that would be great!
Science - This week we will continue to learn about the human body. We will be learning all about the heart - how blood flows through the heart, blood types, the function of the heart, and how to keep our hearts healthy. We will also learn about the lungs - the function of the lungs, how they are connected to the heart, and the different parts of the lungs. This unit will take approximately two weeks to complete. Students were given a workbook which already contains the study guide at the back. This will make it easy for students to study along the way!
The quiz is tentatively set for Thursday of this week. Students have had studies guides since the beginning of the unit in their workbooks.

Writing - This week we will be wrapping up our ABC Autobiographies and be presenting them to the class. Next we will start our poetry unit.

Read Aloud - We are currently reading The Giver. Next, we will start Sherlock Holmes.

MUM - We have started our unit on geometry. This week we will talk about differnt kids on triangles and also get into measuring area and perimeter. The next interim assessment is coming up next week!
