Odds and Ends...
-Spirit Week starts Monday! Students wrote in the theme of each day in their planners.
- Parent Open House is Sept. 27th
- Our first 2 hour late start will be September 28th. School will start at 10:30 with buses running two hours late.
- School pictures will be on October 14th. This will be an out of uniform day.

This Week's Academics
MUR - This week we will be reading the folktale "White Wave".  We will really be looking at the characters in the story and comparing and contrasting them along with looking at the plot of the story and working on sequencing. Along with the story we will work out of our Wordly Wise books which focus on vocabulary and also out of our Analytical Grammar books where we have already started working with nouns, adjectives, and articles.
Spelling and Concept Question Board homework will be sent home on Monday and is due Friday. This will occur every week, unless we have a week that is shorter than 4 days.

MUM - This week we will continue to work on multiples and start getting into three digit by two digit multiplication. I would really appreciate if you work with your child on their multiplication facts each night. Most students have not mastered their facts higher than 5s. Memorizing their facts 6-9 will help them with the skills we will be working on the rest of the school year. Each student made flashcards for 6-9 in class last week that they should have brought home to work with. If you have not seen these flashcards, let me know!
Basic facts homework will be sent home on Monday and is due Friday. This will occur every week, unless we have a week that is shorter than 4 days.

Geography - This week we will wrap up our world mountains unit. The study guide went home on Friday and the quiz will be on Tuesday. We will review in class on Monday. All students brought home their books on Friday. Rereading the chapters will be a great way to study!
We will start our first science unit on meteorology on Wednesday.

Writing - This week we will finish writing out friendly letters and send them off to Arizona to our new pen pals. We will continue to work in our cursive handwriting books and also review the basics of writing good sentences and paragraphs.

Read Aloud - On Friday we finished reading "The Underneath". Students loved the story! We will do a few activities in class to wrap up the book and then move onto one of our Core Knowledge required readings. This list includes Robin Hood, Gulliver's Travels, Treasure Island, Sherlock Holmes, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, and King Arthur.
