October 17-19

Odds and Ends...

- Science Family Fun Night is October 14th at 6:30 pm.
- No school on October 20-21 for MEA

- Conferences will be the evenings of the 13th, 18th, and 19th of October. If you have a child that is just in my MUM/MUR class, feel free to sign up if you would like to chat!

- The next day that students can wear their class t-shirts is October 28th!

This Week's Academics
MUR - This week we will be reading the story "How the Peasants Bought Wisdom." We will really be working on retelling the story this week. Along with the story we will work out of our Wordly Wise books which focus on vocabulary and also out of our Analytical Grammar books where we have already started working with nouns, adjectives, and articles.
No spelling homework this week!

MUM - This week we will start working on long division. Long division is a HARD concept for students to learn and will take some time for students to master this skill.
Most students have not mastered their facts higher than 5s. Memorizing their facts 6-9 will help them with the skills we will be working on the rest of the school year. Each student made flashcards for 6-9 in class last week that they should have brought home to work with. If you have not seen these flashcards, let me know!

There is no Basic Facts Homework this week!

History - We will continue to work through our Europe in the Middle Ages unit this week. We will go through chapter 5 on Monday. We will take a quiz after the first 10 chapters. This puts the tentative quiz date the Friday October 28th. There will also be an at home project that students will be responsible for completing. This project will be introduced next week.

Writing - This week we will continue to work on our informative papers on endangered animals. Each student is taking notes that will guide them through the paper writing process.

Read Aloud - We are reading the Core Knowledge Novel Robin Hood this week. It ties in nicely to our history unit about Europe in the Middle Ages and students will see a lot of similarities between the two.
